The international film community gathers at Cannes Film Festival to celebrate 70 years of influence. The talent, influence, and celebrations brings about the past with the present.

The Cannes Film Festival started in 1947 by, Jean Zay, Minister for Education and Fine Arts, who was keen to establish an international cultural event in France to rival the Venice Film Festival.” This festival received international recognition for the films and celebrities in the mid 1950s. The first time the festival top award, Palme d’or, went to the film Marty. Today the film festival recognizes short and medium length films (Caméra d’Or), student films (Cinéfondation), best first film presentation (Un Certain Regard), and best film (Palme d’or).
Marthe Keller, actress celebrating Canes event, discussing how Cannes changed her career. She attended one evening and was introduced to John Schlesinger. This introduction lead to her work in Marathon Man, Schlesinger is the director of this film. She was on the jury in 1977. This is just one incident where Cannes Film Festival influenced film.
This festival for decades has been the top film festival in the world. The festival: launches careers, a central location for distributors and film makers to network, screens films that go on to win Oscars, provide social change and awareness, and makes a mark for directors in film history.
